Ecommerce Development Services.

Ecommerce development on WooCommerce, Shopify and headless Next.js: fast storefronts, payment gateways, ERP and inventory integrations, and marketplaces.

Ecommerce development is building the online store itself: the storefront customers browse, the checkout and payment gateway they pay through, and the integrations that move orders into stock, shipping and accounting. EqualPixels builds stores on WooCommerce and Shopify, headless storefronts on Next.js, and custom multi-vendor marketplaces, for brands that have outgrown a template.

How an ecommerce order flows

What does ecommerce development include?

A store that sells reliably is more than a theme. It needs a catalogue that is easy to manage, search and filters that help people find the right product, a checkout that does not lose customers, and back-office connections that stop your team retyping orders.

  • Storefront design and build

Product, category and landing pages designed for conversion, responsive from phone to desktop, and fast enough to pass Core Web Vitals.

  • Checkout and payment gateways

Stripe, PayPal, Paddle and regional gateways, wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, cash on delivery where it matters, and multi-currency pricing.

  • Integrations

ERP, inventory, accounting, CRM, shipping carriers, marketing email and WhatsApp order updates, connected through APIs and webhooks rather than CSV exports.

  • Marketplaces and multi-vendor stores

Vendor onboarding, per-vendor listings, commissions, payouts, messaging between buyers and sellers, and moderation tools.

  • Search, personalisation and AI

Faceted search, product recommendations, AI-written product descriptions reviewed by your team, and natural-language search that maps what people type to filters.

  • Migration and replatforming

Moving products, customers, orders and URLs from one platform to another with 301 redirects, so you keep your search rankings.

WooCommerce, Shopify or headless: which platform should you choose?

WooCommerceShopifyHeadless (Next.js)
Best forContent-led stores on WordPress, full controlFast launch, hosted, low maintenanceCustom experiences, top performance, many channels
HostingYou host itHosted by ShopifyFront end on Vercel or your servers, commerce back end via API
FeesNo platform fee, pay for hosting and extensionsMonthly plan plus app feesHigher build cost, flexible running cost
CustomisationVery high, PHP and pluginsThemes, apps and LiquidUnlimited front end

Most small and mid-sized stores should start on Shopify or WooCommerce. Go headless when the storefront itself is the product: heavy content, unusual buying flows, several brands or regions, or performance the themes cannot reach. The WooCommerce documentation and Shopify developer documentation show what each platform supports natively before anything custom is built.

How do we build an online store?

  1. DiscoveryYour catalogue, order volume, markets, payment methods and the systems orders must reach.
  2. Platform choice and scopeA recommendation with the trade-offs written down, then a fixed scope and quote.
  3. DesignWireframes and designs for the home, category, product, cart and checkout pages, tested on mobile first.
  4. Build and integrateThe storefront, payment gateways, shipping rules, taxes and integrations, in two-week sprints with a weekly demo.
  5. Migrate and testProducts, customers and orders moved across, every old URL redirected, and test orders run through each payment method.
  6. Launch and growGo-live with monitoring, a 30-day warranty, then conversion and speed improvements on a maintenance plan.

How do we keep payments and customer data secure?

Card data never touches your server. We use hosted or tokenised payment fields from the gateway, which keeps most stores in the simplest PCI DSS scope. On top of that: HTTPS everywhere, least-privilege admin accounts, two-factor login for staff, regular plugin and app updates, and backups you have tested restoring.

How much does an ecommerce website cost?

Ecommerce projects with EqualPixels typically start at $5,000 for a WooCommerce or Shopify store on a customised theme. Custom designs, complex integrations, headless storefronts and multi-vendor marketplaces cost more and are scoped individually.

ScopeTypical timelineWhat drives the cost
Shopify or WooCommerce store, customised theme3 to 6 weeksCatalogue size, payment methods, shipping rules
Custom-designed store with integrations6 to 12 weeksERP, inventory and accounting connections
Headless storefront or multi-vendor marketplace3 to 6 monthsVendor flows, payouts, search and performance targets

When a custom store is the wrong choice

If you sell a handful of products and are still testing demand, a standard Shopify theme and a few apps will get you selling in days. Spend the budget on photography and marketing first, and invest in a custom build once you know what your customers need that the template cannot do.

Still have questions? Write to us at [email protected]

Which ecommerce platform should I build my online store on?

Shopify suits most brands that want a hosted store with little maintenance. WooCommerce suits content-led stores already on WordPress that want full control and no platform fee. Headless commerce on Next.js suits stores with custom buying flows, several regions or strict performance targets.

How much does it cost to build an ecommerce website?

A WooCommerce or Shopify store on a customised theme typically starts at $5,000. Custom designs with ERP or inventory integrations, headless storefronts and multi-vendor marketplaces cost more, and we give a fixed quote after discovery.

How long does it take to build an ecommerce website?

A customised Shopify or WooCommerce store usually takes three to six weeks. A custom-designed store with integrations takes six to twelve weeks, and a headless storefront or marketplace three to six months.

Can you connect my online store to payments, inventory and accounting?

Yes. We integrate payment gateways such as Stripe, PayPal and regional providers, plus ERP, inventory, accounting, CRM and shipping systems through their APIs and webhooks, so orders flow through without manual entry.

Do you build headless and multi-vendor marketplace stores?

Yes. We build headless storefronts on Next.js and multi-vendor marketplaces with vendor onboarding, listings, commissions, payouts and buyer-seller messaging. Carsooq, a UAE car marketplace we built, uses multi-dealer listings, advanced search and real-time chat.

Can you migrate my store without losing SEO?

Yes. We move products, customers and orders, keep URLs where the platform allows, and add 301 redirects for every URL that changes, then check Search Console after launch.

Can you add personalized product recommendations to my store?

Yes. Recommendations can be rule-based (related, frequently bought together) or AI-driven from browsing and purchase history. We start with the simple version and measure its effect on order value before adding more.
